The LA Times is printing another version of
Elmer Gantry, this time set in
the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with
scientists playing the chief sinner-preachers. This would be
shocking, except for the faked results passed off as science during the
last two decades.
Some sort of Rubicon was crossed in 1980. In this country, many things are new and different compared to what they were before Ronald Reagan. Now, we have NIH scientists selling "advice" to corporations; e.g., drug companies. Supposedly, NIH rules prohibit working on any project that involves a conflict of interest.

But, now
that the Great
White Bandit is in charge, anything goes. For example, today the rules for
managing the National Forests were changed. It is no longer necessary to count
wildlife species or do an environmental impact report, when proposing changes
in forest uses. If the managers believe xylglotyls exist in sufficient number,
then they do. And, no second guessing, either, by snobbish academics: the
local manager is empowered to make a decision and proceed.
Big, bang, boom.
That's that. It goes back to pre-Sir Francis Bacon. We don't need to count
teeth in the horse's mouth, when all we're interested in is how many angels
are behind the horses' arses.
